DESCRIPTION: Height up to 1m.  A tall perennial plant with long green stems, grass-like strap shaped leaves and loose umbels of fragrant pink and white 6-petalled flowers. The 9 stamens are deep pink to red until they mature and release the yellow/orange pollen. The fruit is fruit is brownish-maroon with 6 teardrop shaped sections enclosed at the base by the dried petals and sepals. DISTRIBUTION: A widespread plant becomings scarcer in the far North and Ireland. HABITAT: Edges of ponds, ditches, canals and other wet areas. FLOWERING TIME: June to August. EXTRA NOTES: This plant spreads with creeping rhizomes (underground stems). Also known as Grassy Rush; Lily Grass and Water Gladiolus.
